Jennifer Lawrence Will Make Her Netflix Debut In 2020

As well as starring and producing in a wealth of other films, from Adam McKay’s Elizabeth Holmes biopic to Paolo Sorrentino’s mob drama…

Jennifer Lawrence has been sorely missed on the big screen over the last few years – focusing on grassroots activism and her relationship with now-husband Cooke Maroney in between quietly working on projects.

(When you earn your first Oscar nomination at 20 and actually take home the coveted Best Actress statuette at 22, you’re owed a period away from the limelight.) Thankfully, her media hiatus now seems to be well and truly over, with Lawrence confirmed to star in fellow Academy Award-winner Adam McKay’s film Don’t Look Up, due out on Netflix later this year.

According to the streaming giant, the comedy will trail a pair of hapless astronomers sent on a “giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching asteroid that will destroy planet earth”.

McKay, who is best known for his work on Vice and The Big Short, has written the screenplay and will both direct and produce. “I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence,” the director revealed in a statement. “She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite act’. And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.”
