Jeff Bezos’ Ex-Wife, McKenzie Scott Files For Divorce From Her Second Husband

Billionaire philanthropist, MacKenzie Scott and her husband, Dan Jewett, a former science teacher are parting ways.

According to reports, Scott filed a petition for divorce in the King County Superior Court in Washington State on Monday, 26th September.

Court records however show that Jewett did not contest the divorce. The petition says any division of property is laid out in a separation contract, agreed to by the couple, which is not public. Both still live in King County.

Recall that Scott married the Seattle-based teacher in the prestigious school attended by her children in 2021 after she divorced her longtime husband, the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos in 2019.

Following the divorce, Scott assembled a team of advisers and began quietly making multimillion-dollar donations to nonprofit groups that totalled more than $12 billion in three years.

Bloomberg estimated her net worth as high as $62 billion, but between her billions of dollars in contributions and the decline in the stock market, it now gauges her fortune at $27.8 billion.

Scott and Jewett announced their marriage through a message on their webpage for the Giving Pledge, a philanthropic organization which encourages the world’s richest people to give away a majority of their wealth to charitable causes.

In a message Jewett wrote on Giving Pledge in 2021, he noted that he was joining Scott to pass an enormous financial wealth to serve others.

“I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know — and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others.

“I look forward to the growth and learning I have ahead as a part of this undertaking with MacKenzie.”

However, Jewett’s message seemed to have disappeared from the Giving Pledge site and his name was recently edited out of a Medium post Scott had written last year about their gifts, The Times reported Wednesday, September 28.

According to New York Times, Scott, a novelist also deleted Jewett from her author bio on Amazon.
