‘It diminishes the art’ Basketmouth slams comedy fundraisers (video)

: “I’ve got a question… Aside padding budgets, what else do our senators do? Like…what have they done in the past 50yrs that favored the average Nigerian?”

Comedian, actor, and filmmaker Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth has thrown a jab at his colleagues in the comedy industry who solicit for funds on stage.

In a chat on CreativiTea Live with Linda podcast, Basketmouth questioned the sanity of these colleagues, advising them to quit the behavior as it diminishes the art form.

Reflecting on a past experience, the father of four recounted performing on stage when a man began spraying him with money, which left him feeling embarrassed.

He also discussed his upcoming movie, A Ghetto Love Story, and encouraged his peers to collaborate with younger talents, noting that they bring fresh perspectives and have much to offer the industry.

At 46, Basketmouth emphasized that while he has extensive experience in his field, he doesn’t consider himself too important to share his platform with the younger generation and learn from them.

Basketmouth also revealed that two major sponsors for his upcoming movie unexpectedly backed out, leaving him devastated. Faced with this setback, he managed to raise ₦300 million within just 12 hours.
