IK Ogbonna slams fake miracles, calls on CAN to take action amid "I am a Chosen" trend

Nollywood actor, IK Ogbonna has voiced his concern over the rising number of pastors in Nigeria who are performing fake miracles to deceive and exploit people.

In an Instagram post, IK Ogbonna expressed his disappointment, as he tagged fake miracles and actions a deep betrayal of Christianity’s core values.

He lamented that such fraudulent practices by certain clergymen not only damage the church’s reputation but also exploit vulnerable believers, turning their faith into a means for personal gain.

IK warned that the consequences of these deceptive acts include broken trust, shattered lives, and the manipulation of people’s faith. He called on pastors involved in such behaviors to reflect on their actions, stressing that using God’s name for falsehood is a direct betrayal of the gospel.

He also urged Christians to protect their faith and avoid being influenced by social media trends that mock or undermine their beliefs.

The A-list actor also appealed to religious authorities, such as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the government to take a stronger stance on the matter.

IK advocated for stricter regulations and accountability measures to ensure that those posing as pastors are held accountable for their actions.

He wrote,

“To those pastors, it’s time to reflect—using God’s name for falsehood is a betrayal of the gospel. To the victims, remember your faith is sacred, and true miracles don’t come from deception.

“Let’s also be cautious not to get carried away by social media trends that disrespect and ridicule our faith. Christianity should never be used as a tool for likes, views, or viral content.”

“I call on the government and religious bodies like the Christian Association of Nigeria to step up, regulate, and hold these bad actors accountable. Christianity is about truth, love, and humility—not fraud, manipulation, or mockery.”

IK Ogbonna’s concerns comes as the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries continues to trend on social media due to some eyebrow-raising testimonies from its members.

In one such testimony, a woman claimed she single-handedly fought off four armed robbers and confiscated a gun, mistakenly calling it an “AK-27.”

Celebrities such as MC Lively, Queen Mercy Atang and others have turned these church testimonies into comedic skits, with many humorously adopting the phrase “I’m a Chosen,” often chanted by the church’s followers.
