I didn’t sleep my way to the top – Cardi B spills

Grammy-award-winning American rapper, Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar Cephus better known as Cardi B has shared her opinion about the persistent negative stereotypes that successful women often face, highlighting the double standards that come with fame and ambition.

Cardi B underscored the harsh reality that, despite working tirelessly and performing at top levels, successful women often have their achievements dismissed or belittled. She pointed out how society frequently credits their success to superficial factors, with insinuations that they rely on their looks or physical appeal rather than talent and hard work to get ahead. Cardi called for recognition of women’s genuine efforts, urging people to see past these unfair assumptions and acknowledge the dedication behind their accomplishments.

In a weekend post on her X account, Cardi B expressed frustration over the criticism aimed at U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running as a Democratic Party candidate. She argued that much of the backlash Harris faces stems from gender bias, pointing out that female leaders often endure scrutiny that their male counterparts rarely encounter.

The rapper drew a parallel between her own experiences and those of Kamala Harris, highlighting how both have faced underestimation and harsh scrutiny along their journeys. She noted that, like Harris, she has often been dismissed or judged unfairly, underscoring the broader challenges successful women encounter in battling stereotypes and earning respect.

Just like Kamala Harris, I have been the underdog and I have been underestimated!! My success always discredited.

“Let me tell you something, women have to work ten times harder and perform ten times better and still our success comes with excuses… its because she’s pretty or because she slept her way to the top. I see the disgusting attacks against Kamala and it’s not only angered me but has motivated me more now than ever to not just say something, but to do something!… I can’t stand a bully!”

The rapper’s comments came shortly after she addressed a rally for Kamala Harris in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she officially endorsed the Democratic candidate in the lead-up to the upcoming presidential election.
