‘I am underpaid and struggling financially’ – Djimon Hounsou cries out

Hollywood actor, Djimon Hounsou has revealed his ongoing financial struggles, despite having earned two Oscar nominations and a successful two-decade career in the movie industry.

In a recent interview with CNN, Djimon who is a  Beninese reflected on his impressive career, acknowledging that despite his success, including two Oscar nominations and over two decades in the film industry, he still faces financial struggles and often finds himself underpaid.

“With two Oscar nominations and over two decades making films, I’m still struggling financially to make a living,” he shared.

He also discussed the progress Hollywood has made in terms of African representation, noting that while strides have been made, the industry still has a long way to go in tackling systemic racism.

Additionally, Hounsou opened up about the personal disappointment of being snubbed by the Oscars, despite having risen from humble beginnings to become an accomplished actor.

I was nominated for a golden bronze and got ignored  by the Oscars, talking about the fact that they thought I had just come off the boats”, He noted.

In other news, Hollywood actor, Idris Akuna Elba revealed that he lost interest in playing the James Bond role due to the racism he encountered surrounding the possibility of his casting.

The 50-year-old Sierra Leonean descent shared his thoughts on the matter during a recent appearance on the Smartless podcast, co-hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett.

Idris expressed how exciting it was to hear that he might be considered for the iconic role of James Bond. However, he also acknowledged that the racial discussions surrounding the potential casting ultimately led him to lose interest in the role.
