How President Buhari congratulated Burna Boy, Wizkid on Grammy wins

President Buhari has congratulated Nigerian music star Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, whose entry won the “Best Global Music Album” category in the 2021 Grammy awards, saying he has made notable contributions in the field of music which the world has come to recognize.

A statement released by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, quotes the President as saying;

“Congratulations to Burna Boy on being conferred the 2021 Grammy, the world’s most prestigious musical awards. He has made notable contributions in the field of music which have brought glory to Nigerians at home and abroad. We are proud of his path-breaking achievements”

The President also congratulates Wizkid who emerged as a joint winner of the Grammy Awards in a different category.

President Buhari acknowledged the efforts of forerunners like King Sunny Ade and Femi Kuti whose creative exertions earned them Grammy nominations, paved the way and brought Nigerian music to global reckoning.

The President believes that the record-breaking musical achievements are a recognition of the Nigerian creative talents and the awards will open doors to other aspiring citizens.

Burna Boy broke the Nigerian music record at the 63rd Grammy Awards yesterday by winning a Grammy award for his album Twice As Tall.

He is the first Nigerian to win a Grammy in his second attempt.

Burna Boy’s win was announced at the award ceremony, which was hosted by TV show host, Trevor Noah.

Twice As Tall, Burna Boy’s fifth studio album, was adjudged one of the best to be recorded by the 29-year-old Nigerian-born.

The 29-year old, who was full of excitement about the achievement said the award is a big win for his generation of Africans all over the world.

In his acceptance speech, he said “Yes oh! Yes oh! Yes oh! Africa is in the House men! Africa, we are in the House!

“This is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world!

“And this should be a lesson to every African out there: No matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it.

“No matter where you’re from, because you are a king.

” Look at me now, Grammy Award-winning Burna Boy!
