Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, has filed a lawsuit against the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
Glamsquad reported a week ago that Halima was suspended by the Guild for defamation of her colleagues and other high-profile Nigerians.
In an official statement on their Instagram page, AGN revealed that a panel had conducted a thorough investigation and found the actress guilty of the accusations.
She was charged with defaming her colleagues and patrons, as well as engaging in an extramarital affair with a prominent figure in society.
Responding to the suspension through her legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, Halima filed a lawsuit against them, demanding 30 billion for damages.
She expressed disbelief over the accusations, claiming she was never given the chance to defend herself before learning about her suspension through social media.
Halima’s legal team strongly criticized the AGN president, accusing him of intentionally damaging her reputation. Their letter highlighted that the false allegations were aimed at defaming her character and inciting public backlash on social media.
The solicitors demanded the immediate retraction of the defamatory post and a public apology on the AGN president’s Instagram page within seven days. They also sought ₦30 billion in damages for the harm done to her reputation.
Halima, through her lawyers, warned that if her demands are not fulfilled within seven days, they will proceed to court to seek legal redress.
