Music icon and businesswoman, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter has earned her first-ever Album of the Year win at the Grammy Awards.
The mother of three made history at the 2025 Grammys, as her country album Cowboy Carter secured the coveted Album of the Year award on Sunday.
With this win, Beyoncé becomes the first Black woman this century to take home the Grammys’ top honor.
She is the first Black woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys since Lauryn Hill’s historic victory in 1999.
Cowboy Carter also claimed Best Country Album, making Beyoncé the first Black woman in over 50 years to win a Grammy in a country category.
Beyoncé has further cemented her legacy as the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, now boasting an impressive 35 wins.
Her triumph comes a year after her husband, Jay-Z, openly criticized the Recording Academy’s judgment, highlighting the irony that despite her record-breaking wins, she had never secured Album of the Year—until now.
In other news, a South African model, Tshego Gaelae made history as the first Black Mrs. World at the 40th Mrs. World Pageant in Las Vegas, USA.
The 40th Mrs. World pageant took place on January 29-30, 2025. On the final day, Tshego Gaelae was crowned the winner. Sri Lanka’s Ishadi Amanda was named first runner-up, and Thailand’s Ploy Panperm came in second runner-up.
Celebrating her win, Gaelae expressed her gratitude in an Instagram post. She wrote, “To God Be The Glory. Thank you so much for the love and support, I am beyond grateful and elated! My beautiful South Africa, the crown is coming Home.”
Mrs. World, the first beauty pageant for married women was created in 1984.
