Grammy announces 2024 lifetime achievement award honorees

The Recording Academy, which organises the Grammys, has selected the recipients of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Laurie Anderson, gospel vocal quartet The Clark Sisters, R&B vocalist Gladys Knight, hip-hop ensemble N.W.A, Donna Summer, and Tammy Wynette are among the awardees.

“This Special Merit Award is presented by vote of the Recording Academy’s National Trustees to performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance,” the organisers of the Grammy Awards said in a statement on Friday.

Similarly, Peter Asher, DJ Kool Herc, and Joel Katz will receive the 2024 Trustees Award; Tom Kobayashi and Tom Scott will receive the Technical GRAMMY Award; and ‘Refugee,’ written by Somalian singer K’naan, Steve McEwan, and Gerald Eaton (a.k.a. Jarvis Church), will receive the Best Song For Social Change Award.

On February 3, 2024, the Special Merit Awards ceremony will be hosted at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the main Grammy ceremony will take place in the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 4, 2024.

Nigerian singers, Davido, Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Olamide are nominated in various categories at the 66th Grammys.
