Google Trends: Nigeria tops search for love as globe celebrates Valentine’s Day

Insightful data on Nigerians’ top search terms for love, dating, and the special day of Valentine’s Day were published by Google on Tuesday.

The data, according to Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Relations Manager, Google West Africa, offered a special view into the minds of locals as they looked for solutions and suggestions for the event.

Google Trends revealed that Nigerians were actively looking for ideas and inspiration for Valentine’s Day, and Kola-Ogunlade found that these insights offered a fascinating window into the country’s people and interests.

He claims that Google wants to give individuals the information they require at the appropriate moment.

Kola-Ogunlade said: “These trends showcase the crucial role search plays in helping Nigerians find answers to their most pressing questions, especially during special occasions such as Valentine’s Day.

‘’It underscores the importance of search in these exciting moments.”

Nigeria is now the top country looking for love in 2023, and it has been the top country worldwide since 2004 in terms of dating app usage.

He claims that in the previous week, interest in “the origin of Valentine” had surged by 200%.

According to the data, searches for “valentine’s day texts for boyfriend” increased by 300% over the previous week, and searches for “valentine’s day hair style” increased by 250% over the same time period.

The communications manager claimed that while the origin of Valentine’s Day increased by 200%, the top dating app in the world also increased by 25%.

The finest Valentine’s Day gift for girlfriend both increased by 120% over the previous week, according to Kola-Ogunlade.

He claimed that Nigerians not only looked for Valentine’s Day suggestions but also for information about the holiday’s activities.

The most often asked questions about Valentine’s Day, according to him, over the previous week included, among others, Is Valentine’s Day for Muslims and When was Valentine’s Day formed.

According to Kola-Ogunlade, the top dating-related searches in the previous year included topics like “What to do on a first date” and “How to ask a girl out.”

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Google Trends is a freely accessible tool that shows the relative search traffic across different time periods, locations, and questions that people are interested in.
