Glamsquad Interview : Meet the Baroque Fashion outfit boss

Having participated  in fashion shows like Ecowas fashion week, African fashion week, Wendy Tabansi tells Glamsquad Magazine  about how she started out as passion, her inspiration and challenges of running a fashion outfit.

Can please you briefly introduce yourself?

My name is Wendy Tabansi. I’m the president of BAROQUE BY WENDY. Baroque  by Wendy, was established in 2004 , with a vision of fusing a variety of African and Western cultures and designs through a mix of sophisticated African and Western fabrics; to create unforgettable and irresistible fashion for the woman of class.
What does style mean to you?

I always loved all things creative, being naturally an artist. I started out making lingerie with matching slippers all by myself. This soon graduated into making dresses, and voila! Our focus on satisfying the feminine fashion conscious woman, can be seen in our products, which encompass fabulous design, fit and finish. Even with a close focus  on trend,  Baroque pieces, have that timeless quality that makes it an ageless designer label. This has drawn celebrities and top fashionistas across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond, to this sophisticated fashion house that exudes quality and style.

What inspired your new collection at the African Fashion week 2015.

That special ingredient in your dress up, that distinctly expresses what would ordinarily have been left hidden within you. Roses and all things colourful!

We’re celebrating all things ‘Flower Power’ this month at SPICE – what are your favourite flowers and how would you wear them?

Flower that I love- I love roses of every available colour ,I could wear them on evening dresses, tops, or do them on very hot skirts!
Who are your best fashion buds?

Nkiru Anumudu,  Vivian Chiology, Akande, Waje, Munachi Abii, Anna Banner,Aisha and Bunmi the model.

If you were asked  to design a dress for an actress who would that be?

Nollywood actress  I would love to design for is Omotola Jalade Ekehinde.

Aside designing, how do you relax?

Sometimes with family and friends or with a good movie or book. I find alone times quite refreshing also, it often puts me in the mood for creativity eventually.

What are the highlights and challenges of being an entrepreneur?

It’s exhilarating when you get a message from your client saying ” No one makes clothes like you Wendy”. Flip side? When my designs are not being interpreted properly.

Are there any bright young designers inspiring you/that you would love to collaborate with right now?

Young designer that I would love to collaborate with. Ushie! This guy has the finest hands in design. It would be a delight doing a collaboration with him.
