Ghanaian Singer Shatta Wale In Police Custody

The Ghana Police Service arrested popular dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, for spreading false information.

According to reports, the artist was shot yesterday in East Legon, Ghana. The singer’s publicist, Nana Dope, then issued a message on his social media account claiming that Shatta Wale had been taken to the emergency department of a hospital.

This provoked a response from Ghanaian police, who announced on Facebook that they were hunting for the singer, the location of whom was unknown at the moment.

The Ghana Police Service said early morning on their official Facebook page that the musician handed himself in after they proclaimed him wanted. They also detained Shatta Wale for “creating and disseminating material designed to instill fear and panic.”

The statement titled, Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale, reads, “The Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale. After we publicly declared him and one other person wanted, the suspect, Shatta Wale, turned himself in today Tuesday 19th October 2021, at 8.59 pm.

“He has been arrested to assist the Police in investigations for his alleged involvement in the creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic. As stated in previous statements, the public is advised to desist from publishing false information, capable of disturbing the peace of the country or risk being arrested and prosecuted.”
