Nollywood veteran actress, Genevive Nnaji has penned a touching note to mourn the demise of legendary singer, actress and activist, Onyeka Onwenu.
Glamsquad reported that Onyeka passed away on the night of 30th July 2024. She had performed at the 80th birthday celebration of her friend, Stella Okolie, the founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.

As Nigerians and the entertainment industry in particular continue to send their heartfelt condolences to Onyeka’s family, Genevieve also took to her X page to mourn the Icon.
Genevieve described Onyeka as her as an icon and legend whose influence was profound. She expresses her gratitude for having had the opportunity to honour Onyeka through her work, “LionHeart,” which was created to celebrate legends who shaped her childhood.
The mother of one noted also that she is deeply saddened and struggling to accept the reality of Onyeka’s death. She offers her condolences to Onyeka’s family, loved ones, and fans, and assures that her legacy will be remembered forever.
She tweeted,
“Today, we mourn the passing of an icon, a legend whose voice and presence have resonated deeply with us all—Onyeka Onwenu.
I’m better at expressing myself through my art. “LionHeart” was born out of a desire to honor and give flowers to the legends that made my childhood beautiful and memorable, whilst they were still with us. I am so grateful she accorded me the opportunity, honor and privilege to share time and space with her. We created iconic moments that will forever be entrenched in my mind and photo memories.
My tears won’t stop falling because writing this tribute means I can’t live in delusion for a few more hours. That this is not a bad dream I will be waking up from
My heart and deepest condolences to her family, loved ones and to her fans all around the world.
