Gabrielle Union reveals she ‘felt entitled’ to infidelity during first marriage

The first marriage of Gabrielle Union, which she describes as “dysfunctional from day one,” is discussed in more detail.

The actress and author discussed her five-year marriage to former professional football player Chris Howard during a recent interview on the podcast “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard.” She divorced him in 2006 after the couple had been together for five years.

Union acknowledged that she was not “getting wife of the year awards” as a result of her marriage to the former Jacksonville Jaguars player, and Shepard mentioned feeling remorse for his own prior affairs.

“In my first marriage, neither one of us felt like the marriage should get in the way of our dating,” she said. “A part of it was like keeping up with his activities, like, ‘Oh, that’s what you’re doing? You’re going to feel this one.’ And I just felt entitled to it as well.”

“The Inspection” star said she “was paying all the bills. I was working my a** off and I felt like that’s what comes, the spoils of riches.”

Since 2014, Union has been wed to NBA star Dwyane Wade, another former professional athlete. She expressed regret that she hadn’t felt more remorse for her actions in her first marriage.

“It was such a stupid relationship that should have never got out of the dating phase,” she said of her marriage to Howard.
