Funke Akindele fires back at troll advising her and Toyin Abraham to lose weight

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has responded to a male troll who body-shamed her and her colleague, Toyin Abraham.

The troll left a comment on her Instagram post advising her to lose weight.  He criticized her for gaining weight and appearing unconcerned about it. He also mentioned that it’s not wise for an actress like her to be unaware that being overweight could affect her performance.

The troll added that it is misguided for people to believe that gaining weight is a sign of good living, ignoring the fact that obesity can be fatal and cause discomfort. He urged her and Toyin Abraham to lose weight, pointing out how their shapes and appearances had changed.

The troll wrote,

“Funke Akindele, it’s unwise how you’re getting too fat yet feeling unbothered. More unwise not knowing fatness isn’t good for an actress of your kind as it may affect role delivery and prevent directors from contacting characters that need smart, flexible, and fit actresses. Most unwise, many of y’all celebs think getting fat is evidence of good living, forgetting obesity kills and causes discomfort. U & Toyin Abraham need do a lot about weight reduction. U people have changed shape and signature. Hit gym 24hrs. Avoid junk, and limit excess sleeping. Be wise. Don’t be unwise”.

In response, Funke Akindele sarcastically thanked him for his advice and then insulted him, writing,

“Yes sir. Werey Alaso.”

This isn’t the first time Funke has faced social media shaming. Last year, she responded to a Twitter user who advised her to remarry. The tweep suggested she remarried in 2024, highlighting that she was getting older.

The mother of two sarcastically thanked him for the advice, remarking that he must be the wedding planner. The box office queen has also clapped back at her critics while discussing her survival in the movie industry. She talked about being an underdog and how she continues to push the boundaries in Nigerian cinema.
