Funke Akindele credits her career success to God as she recounts her journey (video)

Nollywood actress and Box Office Queen, Funke Akindele has attributed her success to God, declaring that He alone made her who she is today.

Speaking at the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) 2025 event, the award-winning filmmaker emphasized that no one else can take credit for her rise to stardom.

The movie star shared how the idea for the Jenifa brand first came to her and how she began writing scripts for her films. She recalled an industry insider advising her to keep capitalizing on Jenifa’s success while also providing financial support for her projects.

Funke also discussed evolving audience preferences and the strategies she employs to stay relevant in Nigeria’s ever-changing content marketing landscape.

At singer D’banj’s anniversary dinner in June last year, Funke Akindele revealed how God used him to inspire her to keep the Jenifa brand alive. She shared that D’banj not only encouraged her to keep the fire burning but also provided financial support for her next project.

Previously, Funke had opened up about the struggles she faced before achieving stardom. Reflecting on her journey, she shared a behind-the-scenes video from the set of her record-breaking film, A Tribe Called Judah, calling herself a testament to perseverance. She acknowledged the challenges she had overcome, emphasizing how they shaped her resilience and fueled her desire to inspire others.

It is worth noting that Funke Akindele remains the undisputed queen of the box office, with her latest film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, shattering records to become the highest-grossing movie of all time in West Africa, earning ₦1.6 billion. The filmmaker has once again outdone herself, surpassing her previous record with A Tribe Called Judah, which grossed over ₦1.4 billion.
