He is the son of Jesse Harvey, a coal miner, and his wife, Eloise Vera Harvey, a Sunday school teacher.

Harvey began his career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1980s and hosted Showtime at the Apollo and The Steve Harvey Show on The WB.

Harvey has hosted several TV shows, including It’s Showtime at the Apollo, Me and the Boys, The Steve Harvey Show, Family Feud, Celebrity Family Feud, Little Big Shots, and Steve Harvey’s Funderdome.

He is also an author, having written four books, including his bestseller Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.

In 2017, Harvey founded Steve Harvey Global, an entertainment company that houses his production company East 112 and various other ventures.

He launched an African version of Family Feud and also invested in the HDNet takeover along with Anthem Sports and Entertainment.

Harvey is a seven-time Daytime Emmy Award winner and two-time Marconi Award winner.

He is also a philanthropist and the founder of The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on youth education.
