France following suit to pass bill against skinny models

In an effort to ensure good health and well being of models, the world’s Fashion capital France is joining Spain, Italy, Belgium, Chile and Israel who have already passed a bill banning models below a certain body mass from walking the runway.

Modeling agencies will be required to provide a medical certificate for each model, proving that her BMI is above a healthy level or face punishment of up to six months in prison and a 75,000 euro ($80,000) fine. French Health Minister Marisol Touraine also gave her backing in a statement to the press saying “I believe that models should eat well and look after their health. This is an important message to young women who see these models as an aesthetic example.”
