Former Pop Idol contestant and theatre star, Darius Campbell Danesh is dead

Glamsquad reports that Darius Campbell Danesh, a former Pop Idol contestant and theatre star, died at the age of 41, according to his family.

On August 11, the singer and actor was discovered dead in his apartment in Rochester, Minnesota. However, the cause of his death in Rochester, Minnesota, is unknown.

 

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh,” his family said in a statement.

 

“The local police department confirmed that there were no indications of malicious intent or suspicious circumstances.” At this point, the cause of his sudden death is unknown, and medical examinations are ongoing.

 

“We respectfully request that you respect our wishes for privacy at this time as we cope with the tragic loss of our son and brother.”

 

Campbell Danesh, the eldest of three boys born in Glasgow to a Scottish mother and an Iranian father, attended Bearsden Primary School before studying English literature and philosophy at the University of Edinburgh.

In 2001, he rose to prominence on the ITV show Popstars, where he was known for his audition performance of Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time.

 

Later, he finished third in the first season of Pop Idol, which was won by Will Young, and his memorable performances included covers of Tom Jones’ hit It’s Not Unusual and Atomic Kitten’s Whole Again.

 

Colorblind, his debut single, was released in July 2002 and immediately went to number one.

Later in his career, the Scottish singer-songwriter had a successful West End career, appearing in shows such as Chicago, in which he played Billy Flynn, Guys And Dolls, Gone With The Wind, and Funny Girl.

 

In the musical set in prohibition-era Chicago, Campbell Danesh co-starred with America Ferrera from Ugly Betty.
