Filmmaker, Ali F. Mostafa on a new feature sequel to 2009 debut ‘City of Life’

British Filmmaker, Ali F. Mostafa, has revealed that he is working on a new feature based on his 2009 breakout debut ‘City Of Life.”

The original, which centers on three characters from various spheres of life in Mostafa’s hometown of Dubai, was a local breakout hit in the U.A.E. in 2009 and is still one of the most well-known movies from the region both domestically and abroad.

“I felt it was time to make a sequel because I started realizing how Dubai has changed so much. From 2009 to where we are today, not only is Dubai structurally, and physically changed, but when you go out you feel it has changed,” said Mostafa.

“It’s a lot more populated. We’re a lot more open to things we weren’t open to before. The region’s changed. There is less censorship in certain areas.”

Three characters will be central to Mostafa’s new movie, as in his first one.

There will be a Chinese character who travels to Dubai in search of her sister who has been missing for a year, a Saudi Arabian high school student who moved to Dubai for a fresh start after a dramatic event in his life, and a Nigerian security guard working in the nightlife world.

“Each one of these characters connects, as was the case in the first film, and ends up changing the others’ lives without physically meeting one another,” said Mostafa.
