FAST AND THE FURIOUS 8 (THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS) SHATTERS BOX OFFICE RECORDS

The eight installments of the Fast and the Furious movie franchise has shattered the sacred Box Office sales record by becoming the biggest grossing global opening ever.

Nobody was expecting this. When Paul Walker one of the notable cast of the previous 7 parts was killed in an accident midway through shooting part 7, everyone thought that would be the end of the Franchise.

The eighth film in the action thriller franchise took an estimated $532.5m (£424.7m) globally over Easter weekend. The figure makes it the strongest worldwide debut ever – marginally overtaking the $529m (£421.8m) taken by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It owes that record to its success internationally, where it also beat out Jurassic World’s previous record of $316.7 million in international sales in an opening weekend. Fate of the Furious’ opening weekend in China accounts for the majority of it’s global revenue. The film topped $190 million there, while its second highest territorial debut (outside of the US) was Mexico with $17.8 million.

Congrats to Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and the rest of the cast.
