Fashion History: The history of Stella McCartney

In this week’s fashion history, we will be taking a look at the fashion history of Stella McCartney. Stella McCartney is a British fashion label that was founded by namesake Stella McCartney.

Stella McCartney born in September 1971 in London is a fashion designer known for her fur and leather-free apparel. She also has a lot of patronage from high-class celebrities which is one of the many things the fashion designer is popular for.

Stella McCartney at an early age worked for a French couture house Christian Lacroix for a time and then proceeded to work as an intern at British Vogue. She also attended Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, London.

In 1995, Stella McCartney features supermodel Naomi Campbell for her graduation project. Her work soon became popular in the international fashion world. In 1997, Stella McCartney was hired by the Vendôme Luxury Group to revitalize its 45-year-old design label, Chloé. After her success in reviving the fashion brand into a desirable brand, Italian fashion house Gucci in 2001 negotiated with her. After the negotiation, Gucci announced that it would participate in a joint venture to launch a new design label produced under McCartney’s name. Stella being a lifelong vegetarian demanded no fur and leather were to be used in the products.

McCartney has designed a wedding dress for popular American singer Madonna. She also designed uniforms worn by athletes representing Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. Stella 2018 also designed the reception dress worn by Meghan Markle for her wedding to Prince Harry.

In 2018, Stella McCartney became the sold owner of her fashion line after acquiring the 50 percent share owned by Gucci.
