This week, we will continue with our fashion history session by taking a look at the fashion of the 1960s.

The previous few years witnessed the growth in fashion through different world wars and how fashion grew in different eras. It also witnessed the development of the American fashion designers and how they became popular in the fashion world.

Fashion History Sessions: The Fashion of the 1960s

The switch from utility clothing to pencil skirts and hourglass skirts and pin-up fashion. Fashion also started to become in line with the trending music during those Era. The Fashion in the 1960s is a continuation of the previous eras and more developed fashion designers.

Fashion of the 1960s can be characterized by the casual theme outfits. The fashion of men and women became more casual and this happened across all ages. Womenswear during this Era followed three broad trends which are a continuation of the previous decade’s ladylike elegance, the youthful styles of Mary Quant, and the late 1960s “hippie” style.

Menswear fashion on the other hand witnessed an increase in the number of colors worn and fashion icons that were influenced by rock stars. Children’s wear also became more colorful and casual.

Fashion icons during this era include first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. The outfit she wore while accompanying her husband on a presidential campaign caught a lot of attention and this in a while became a trend. The outfit she wore was a lady-like look consisting of boxy skirt-suits.
