Fashion Designer, Dame Mary Quant passes away at 93

The family of Fashion Designer, Dame Mary Quant has announced her passing. She was 93.

A statement from her family to the PA news agency said she “died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK this morning”.

The mini-skirts, which helped characterize the Swinging 1960s, was often credited to Dame Mary.

Her family said she was “one of the most internationally recognised fashion designers of the 20th Century and an outstanding innovator”.

“She opened her first shop Bazaar in the Kings Road in 1955 and her far-sighted and creative talents quickly established a unique contribution to British fashion.”

Dame Mary was the daughter of two Welsh school teachers and was born on February 11, 1930, in south-east London.

She graduated with a degree in art education from Goldsmiths College in the 1950s, when she also met her future husband, Alexander Plunket Greene, who later assisted in building her brand.
