Now that the dust has settled after the Golden Globes, the world’s attention has turned to the Academy Awards, the most important night in film. This is when Hollywood’s brightest stars come together (often wearing fresh-off-the-runway couture) to find out who will be awarded the industry’s most prestigious prizes.
If last year has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. After all, who could have foreseen Green Book – a film mired in controversy from the moment it screened at the Toronto Film Festival – taking home the gong for Best Picture, or Olivia Colman (who was, admittedly, incredible in The Favourite) besting seven-time nominee Glenn Close for Best Actress?
But we are sure of a few things, so far. From the nominees to the dress code, here’s everything you need to know about the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony.
When will the Oscars 2020 take place?
The Oscars 2020 will take place on Sunday, 9 February 2020 at 5pm PT/ 8pm ET.
Where will the Oscars 2020 be held?
The Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, which has hosted the event since 2002.
Who will host the Oscars 2020?
Last year, the Oscars went without a host for the first time in 30 years, after Kevin Hart pulled out following public backlash over homophobic tweets. Instead, the show leaned on its presenters, including Saturday Night Live alums Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler, who were on top form, as well as Helen Mirren, Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke and Constance Wu.
This year the awards ceremony will again go ahead without a host.
Can you watch the Oscars 2020 on television?
In America, the event airs live on ABC from 5pm PT/ 8pm ET. Last year, the Oscars were broadcast on Now TV and Sky in the UK, but neither has yet confirmed whether they’ll be televising the event in 2020. If you’re unable to watch, follow along with Vogue‘s coverage online.

What is the dress code?
While the Oscars doesn’t enforce a dress code, stars usually take to the red carpet in outfits befitting the glamorous occasion.
Women (and men, if you’re Billy Porter) typically wear elaborate ball gowns from the world’s most renowned fashion houses, turning the red carpet into a televised showcase of the season’s top couture trends.
