Eva Omaghomi, Prof Dame Elizabeth Anionwu represent Nigeria to the fullest at King Charles III’s Coronation

 

Two outstanding Nigerian women, Eva Omaghomi and Professor Dame Elizabeth Anionwu represented Nigeria to the fullest at King Charles III’s coronation held today at Westminster Abbey.

Omaghomi’s, outfit to the coronation ceremony, caught the attention of many as it stood out. She wore a beautiful peach lace, a matching ballet pump and a gele (head tie). She depicted a full Nigerian traditional attire.

According to reports, Omaghomi, consistently highlights the Nigerian culture. For a duration of 13 years, she served as a staff member to King Charles and Queen Camilla when he held the title of Prince of Wales and she was known as the Duchess of Cornwall.

She also holds the distinction of being their longest-serving employee, as well as their longest-serving black staff member.

In 2021, King Charles III named Eva Omaghomi as the newly created Director of Community Engagement to foster diversity and promote cultural awareness within the royal households.

At her investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, she adorned herself in a gele and buba, which are traditional Yoruba attire. See pictures below

Professor Dame Elizabeth Anionwu

Another Nigerian who represented Nigeria is Professor Dame Elizabeth Anionwu a British nurse, health care administrator, lecturer, and Emeritus Professor of Nursing at the University of West London.

During King Charles III’s Coronation, Dame Elizabeth carried the sovereign Orb. She wore a blue lace (skirt and blouse) and white gele.

She also wore Nigerian attire during her investiture by the late Queen Elizabeth.

What is an Orb? 

The sovereign Orb, with its cross mounted on a golden globe, symbolises that the monarch’s power is derived from God. It is decorated with clusters of emeralds, rubies and sapphires surrounded by rose-cut diamonds, and single rows of pearls, with bands of jewels.
