Dr. Dre’s highly anticipated third album, Compton, has dropped a day earlier than expected.
According to Mic, the album will be the official soundtrack to the upcoming film, Straight Outta Compton.
It’s been over 15 years since the 50-year-old rapper and super producer made his last album, 2001. Speculation built over the last few years about the potential release of an album called Detox, but Dre has yet to say anything about whether that record might come to fruition. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t been keeping busy, mentoring the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Eminem as well running Beats Electronics.
Rolling Stone reports that he will donate part of the proceeds of the record to an arts center in Compton that he plans on building.

The album was made as a soundtrack to the highly anticipated movie “straigh out of compton”, which is a biographical movie about his early rap group NWA. Dre, however is not the only successful hip hop icon who hails from the NWA rap group. A list actor and movie producer/rapper Ice Cube who directed the movie is also part of Dre’s early group.
Dr Dre said in an interview that the movie tells the story of things that happened in the background as they were coming up in the music industry. The movie would be released later this month in the US, and we would be expecting it very soon in Nigeria.
