The Internet has been on fire in the past hours after the gruesome murder of late Dora Akunyili’s husband, Dr Chike Akunyili in Onitsha, Anambra state.
Glam Squad Magazine gathered that Dr. Akunyili, along with seven others were shot and killed on Tuesday evening in Nkpor, Anambra State’s Idemili North Local Government Area.
Since his death, the political class has reacted strongly to the tragic events, with President Muhammadu Buhari, for example, calling on security forces to bring the murderers to justice.
In a recent statement, Nigeria’s secret service, the Department of State Services, or DSS, refuted charges that its officers were involved in the assassination of Dr. Chike Akunyili.

Dr. John Chike Akunyili is most known for being the spouse of Prof. Dora Akunyili, the former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). His date of birth is unknown, however he is thought to be in his early sixties.

Chike Akunyili was a doctor and a caring husband who supported his wife’s pharmacology studies financially. He also traveled to India with Dora for treatment for endometrial cancer, a disease that claimed her life tragically in 2014.
Until his death, Dr Chike Akunyili was the director of the St Leo’s Hospital in Enugu State, which was said to be one of the largest in the state.
