Nollywood actress, Doris Simeon has finally opened up about her challenging custody battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Ademinokan.
In an interview on her show Talk to B with her colleague Biola Bayo, she shared that, despite facing deep frustration and depression, she kept that part of herself hidden. She explained that her family upbringing, particularly her parents’ teachings on resilience, inspired her to remain strong through any challenge.
Doris revealed that her son was only 4 years old when her ex-husband, Daniel took him to the US, and the last time she truly got to be his mother was when he was 3. She claimed that whenever she called, he wouldn’t answer, and when he finally did, he’d say he was busy before becoming unreachable again.
She said,
“I might have had my fault, he also had his fault. That’s why I said I didn’t feel anything when they got married, but the only thing is that he didn’t allow me to mother my child. That’s the only painful part.
He took my son without my consent, he was just 4 years old when he came to the US. He was 3 when I mothered my child last. I was calling, but he wouldn’t pick up, and when he picked up, he would tell me he would call me back as he was busy, and for another 3 to 4 months, I wouldn’t get through.
I was frustrated and depressed, but I can never show that because I knew the family I came from as my parents told us to be strong, no matter what you’re going through in life. I just went for a movie premiere and someone told me I am not here to see my son. That was how they took us to court”.
Glamsquad recalls that Daniel Ademinokan and Doris Simeon ended their marriage in 2010, with custody of their young son going to Daniel, who relocated to the United States, where he began a new life with his second wife, actress Stella Damasus.
Doris had a rare reunion with her son in 2018, marking her birthday with the moment. However, Daniel’s marriage to Stella also came to an end in 2020 due to irreconcilable differences, leading him to move to a different state in the U.S.
A few months after their split, Daniel Ademinokan threw shades at Stella Damasus, cautioning people against readily accepting advice from motivational speakers, hinting that they might be the ones most in need of it.
Stella, reflecting on the end of their marriage, expressed disappointment, saying she believed Daniel was her soulmate and partner in all things. She advised women to be alert to red flags and avoid rushing into marriage.
Daniel has since married film director Tope Oshin in July 2023, and the couple recently welcomed their first child, though they’ve kept the gender private.
