Don Jazzy reveal why his artistes avoid releasing songs on the same day as Wizkid and Asake

Music mogul and Mavin Records CEO, Michael Collins Ajereh better known as Don Jazzy, has disclosed that he prohibits his artists from releasing songs or projects on the same day as Wizkid or Asake.

During a podcast interview with Fisayo Fosudo, Jazzy mentioned that launching music on the same day as Wizkid or Asake could be musically suicidal

In this streaming era, it is common knowledge that Wizkid and Asake are among the most successful artists in Nigeria. Don Jazzy said:

“We [Mavin] are moving from the traditional Friday release date to Wednesdays and Thursdays because there are no more Fridays [without another artistes dropping a song].

“If my artiste is to drop a song or project on a Friday and Wizkid or Asake is also releasing that day, I will move our release date because you don’t want to just die a natural death.”

In a past interview with Joey Akan on the Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast, Don Jazzy revealed why he often advises his signees to emulate the controversial singer Portable.

Don Jazzy stated that he uses the ‘Zazu’ crooner as a role model when discussing how to maintain relevance in the music industry with his artists.

He also conducted a comparative analysis of BNXN (formerly Buju) and Portable, both of whom rose to stardom in 2021.

Don Jazzy observed that while Portable gained fame with his breakout song “Zazuu Zeh,” thanks to Olamide, BNXN already had seven songs on the charts. However, the controversial singer’s followers reached a million more quickly.
