The models wore elegant black mourning veils, and there was a dramatic white minidress with enormous putti shoulders that reminded me of Turrido singing that Lola’s “blouse is as white as milk” in one of the opera’s opening songs.

There were also voluminously gowns of soft sculpted taffeta with matching opera capes. Additionally, there were the lavish, inky black gowns covered in crosses and capped with veils—that Sicilian widow uniform that Dolce and Gabbana established the cornerstone of their business with the 1990s.
