Hollywood veteran actor, Denzel Washington has revealed an interesting twist to his ancestry.
The acclaimed actor, known for his role in Gladiator II, disclosed that a recent heritage test revealed he is 90 percent Irish and 10 percent Nigerian, adding a surprising dimension to his ancestry.
Washington made the revelation during a recent interview with British-Nigerian media personality Ada Enechi, where he discussed his ancestry and the surprising results of his heritage test.
He said,
“I am 10 per cent Nigerian and 90 per cent Irish,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Denzel Washington has hinted at retirement.
The 69-year-old thespian disclosed during a press tour of his latest movie ‘Gladiator II’ in Australia that ‘Black Panther 3’ is one of his last films before retirement.
He said he would be retiring after shooting ‘Black Panther 3’, ‘Othello 2’ and ‘King Lear.’
Several Hollywood celebrities have Nigerian ancestry, often sharing their roots through personal stories or ancestry tests. One of the most notable figures is British actor John Boyega, known for his role in the Star Wars franchise.
Boyega proudly acknowledges his Nigerian heritage, with his family hailing from the Yoruba ethnic group. Similarly, 12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who has become a prominent figure in Hollywood, also has Nigerian roots, specifically from the Igbo ethnic group.
