emininity is back in a big way this season, thanks to the influx of ruffles on the runways. Fashion editors have already coined the term ‘cake dress’ to describe the frothy, frilly creations comprised of multiple layers of delicious-looking fabric.
Most notably, Marc Jacobs’ standout Spring Summer 2019 show included voluminous ruffled blouses in pink and peach, as well as can-can-girl-style dresses rendered in feathers and sequins. Up-and-coming designer Molly Goddard, who counts Rihanna as a fan, also had a love affair with ruffled tulle and gingham gowns. Meanwhile, wearable romantic blouses were seen at Coach 1941, Zimmermann and Gucci – perfect for pairing with a pair of understated tailored trousers.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley made this fresh-off-the-runway look her own at the Daily Front Row Fashion Awards. With the help of stylist Emma Jade Morrison, the British model put a spin on this Autumn Winter 2019 Oscar de la Renta asymmetrical ruffled silk taffeta blouse by teaming it with tapered trousers and a barely-there shoe. It’s a lesson in modern-day cocktail party style.

Multiple designers played with these regal Elizabethan-style detailings on dresses and blouses.
