Ms. Khorsandi, 49, revealed on Twitter that she was the victim of a public assault two years ago, and that the perpetrator was found guilty in October but is now appealing the verdict.

She expressed gratitude that “the CPS had enough evidence to pursue it,” but she did not speak publicly until now because she “wanted to move on.”

She reported the public incident to the Metropolitan Police and praised the force for their response.

‘Now, however, he is appealing against the verdict, so it’s a trial all over again,’ said the award-winning comedian, who has appeared on popular TV shows such as Live at the Apollo and QI.

‘It was the most minor type of sexual assault, but it was extremely difficult.’

‘My heart goes out to those who suffer even more and see the CPS helpless because they are so underfunded.’

‘I’m so [down] that even if you believe me, it all comes down to ££. They [the CPS] do not take on cases unless they are fairly certain of a conviction.

‘Because what happened to me happened in public, it was fairly straightforward.

‘I know two people who were raped, but the CPS, while sympathetic, did not believe there was enough evidence to warrant a conviction.’

‘It was SO difficult to report this offense, knowing the potential impact on my career and the stress of a trial.’

‘However, the thought of him thinking what he did was “normal” and “just a joke” became crippling.

‘I may write about it after it’s all over, but seeing up close how certain they have to be to get a conviction before prosecuting, and how it all comes down to funding, well, it’s maddening.’
