Chidimma Adetshina addresses identity theft claims by South African government (video)

Chidimma Adetshina, the newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria has finally broken her silence concerning the allegations of identity theft levied against her by South Africa’s government.

Recall that Chidimma Adetshina stepped down from the Miss South Africa contest despite being a Top 11 Finalist after the South African Department of Home Affairs accused her mother of potential fraud and identity theft and backlash from South Africans.

It is worth noting that Chidimma has roots stretching across the continent. She was born in Soweto’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in 2001. Her father is of Igbo descent from Nigeria, while her mother, a Mozambican, is now a naturalized South African citizen.

Addressing the issue during an interview on Arise News, the 23-year-old denied stealing any identity. She said

“I did not steal anyone’s identity. I’m just waiting for the conclusion of the case and the whole matter. Then moving forward I will know exactly what to say because I feel right now if I say something and another thing comes out tomorrow. I’m just avoiding all those two things contradicting each other.

“I really avoided the questions because it is a legal matter and I don’t have all the facts around the matter, but what I can say is that I was not running away from any of that. I was just running because I knew I had a dream that I wanted to fulfil.

“I’m not fully aware of the matter. But what I can speak on is that I know I did not steal anyone’s identity.”

Glamsquad recalls that Chidimma received an invitation to join Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which she accepted.

Interestingly Chidimma emerged winner over 24 other contestants and was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024.
