Nollywood hit movie Shanty Town has been met with a lot of reactions, from talking about the nude scene played by Nancy Isime to Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) touching her breast. Diverse opinions have trailed the series since its release on January 20, 2023, but almost everyone agrees that it is one of the best movies produced by Nollywood in recent times.
One of the film’s lead characters, Chidi Mokeme, who played the role of “Scar,’’ a notorious criminal in Shanty Town, has gained plaudits for mastering his character to perfection. Scar in Shanty Town ran the drug cartel and sex trafficking venture of Chief Fernandez (RMD), who sought to extend his grip on Lagos State by campaigning to become governor of the state.
Chidi Mokeme made viewers believe he was Scar as he put on a deadly look with blurry eyes, which he credited to smoking at least three packs of cigarettes per day while on the set of the movie. The high-profile Nollywood actor told the BBC during an interview that he had to start smoking because of the role.
He also talked about not taking his bath on some days or brushing his teeth so he could give the appearance of a dirty-looking criminal ruling the ghetto. The actor said he struggled to get over being ‘Scar’ after shooting the film because he became the character. He had to put up a fight with himself to return to being Chidi Mokeme.
Without a doubt, the 50-year-old thespian killed his role, and it will not be out of place if he wins an award for being ‘Scar’ the ‘King of Zanga.’ As we patiently wait for the second season of Shanty Town, it cannot be out of place to suggest that Scar appears in it.
