Charlize Theron’s Oscars Look Is One To Die For

Charlize Theron’s awards season 2020 wardrobe has been a lesson in the limitless delights of custom red-carpet wear. She’s schooled us on the-sky-is-the-limit creations from the world’s most accomplished ateliers, including Dior, of which she is an ambassador, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Celine. When it came to upping the ante, there was only one woman who could create the Best Actress nominee’s Oscars look: Maria Grazia Chiuri. The first female artistic director of Dior shares the same feminist passions as Megyn Kelly, the Fox News correspondent who helped ignite an anti-sexual harassment movement in media, and the power house whom Theron plays in Bombshell.

Let’s not forget that Chiuri is the couturier who indulged Theron’s “idea to wear something green” to the Golden Globes, designing a striking Granny Smith-hued gown with a spectacular inner corset work that her team pored over for hundreds of hours. She is also the creative who painstakingly fine pleated the bodice of the actor’s royal purple (another of Theron’s bold choices) BAFTAs dress on a mannequin of her body. Theron’s Oscars gown: a black bodice with an asymmetric off-the-shoulder and flowing skirt with thigh-grazing slit, embodies the same effortless elegance that belies the complicated craftsmanship behind it.
