The idea for this collection came from the Maltese Lira, Malta’s currency from 1972 until 31st December 2007, when it was replaced by the Euro. On July 10th, an irrevocable fixed conversion rate of Lm 0.4293 to one Euro was created.
The intricate details and colors seen on banknotes from the third, fourth, and, for the most part, fifth series are reimagined and digitally manipulated into graphic patterns. Bank notes are a powerful symbol of a nation’s history, culture, and sovereignty, and the details found on the notes blend very well with the Charles & Ron design ethic, as the designers take influence from Maltese culture on a regular basis.
