The 54-year-old singer revealed today, December 8, that she has Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a condition that causes her muscles to tense uncontrollably.

Sufferers are described as “human statues” as the condition gradually locks the body into rigid positions, eventually rendering people unable to walk or talk.

While there is no cure for the condition, there are treatments to slow its progression, and Celine has stated that she is doing everything she can to minimize symptoms.

Celine revealed in a tearful Instagram post today that she has been forced to cancel her European tour.

“Hello everyone, I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to reach out to you,” she said in the video. I miss you all so much and can’t wait to finally meet you on stage.

“As you know, I’ve always been an open book, and I wasn’t ready to say anything until now.

“I’ve had health issues for a long time, and it’s been extremely difficult for me to face my challenges and talk about everything that I’ve been through.”

“I was recently diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a very rare neurological disorder that affects one in a million people.”

“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know it’s what’s been causing all of my spasms.”

“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes making it difficult for me to walk and preventing me from using my vocal chords to sing as I used to.”
