Deji Adeyanju, a lawyer and activist, claims that musician Burna Boy wrote the petition to the police that led to the arrest of fellow singer Darlington Okoye aka Speed Darlington.
Mr Adeyanju stated in an X post on Tuesday that Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, was arrested in Lagos last Friday and transferred to Abuja, where he is currently detained.
“We just spent the last 30mins with Speed Darlington and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around and eventually brought to Abuja and has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm,” he wrote.
Adeyanju’s post follows his announcement that the location of the social media sensation had been discovered in response to alarms raised by his mother and fans.
Earlier, Constance Nwogu, a social media influencer, expressed concern about the artist’s whereabouts, noting that he had been unavailable for three days.
Speed Darlington’s arrest is believed to be the result of a video he posted some time ago questioning whether Burna Boy deserved his Grammy Award win in 2021 given his relationship with American music executive Diddy, who is facing charges of human trafficking and assault, among others.
Speed Darlington had also taunted Burna Boy, asking how much oil Diddy used on him after US investigators said they found tons of baby oil in Diddy’s possession when his residence was searched.
