Social media has been buzzing non-stop, with the names of VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky, Falz, Femi Falana, and Seun Kuti echoing across every corner.
The drama started when Verydarkman revealed that Bobrisky’s close friend, seeking help, slid into his DMs to complain against the crossdresser.
In a show of kindness, the friend had loaned the flamboyant ‘mummy of Lagos’ as he is fondly called 4 million Naira during Bobrisky’s EFCC ordeal in July, with a clear agreement for repayment by September. When the deadline passed with no repayment, Bobrisky reportedly went silent, prompting the friend to seek justice.
Known for his activism, Verydarkman quickly shared screenshots of the loan transaction, along with private chats showing the friend begging for his money back.
Instead of paying, Bobrisky allegedly flipped the situation, hinting that the friend might be gay and teasing him with flirtatious comments as if that could count towards repaying the loan. Verydarkman, in a heated response, didn’t hold back. He warned Bobrisky to either pay up or face a serious public backlash that he will deeply regret.
Reacting to the allegations, Bobrisky took to his Instagram and shared a video of himself dancing to a song. In the video, he twerked energetically, subtly showing that he remains unfazed by the ongoing controversy. However, shortly after, he deleted the video.
VeryDarkMan exposes Bobrisky, EFCC, Falz and Femi Falana
After Bobrisky failed to comply, VeryDarkMan took to his Instagram page to play a phone call conversation between Bobrisky and a friend where he recounted his ordeal with the EFCC and how he escaped imprisonment.
In the leaked call, Bobrisky revealed that he paid N15 million to the EFCC to have a money laundering charge dropped from his case. He explained how he collected money from friends to bribe the anti-corruption agency, ultimately getting the charge removed.
Bobrisky went on to explain that his troubles started after he won ‘Best Dressed Female’ at Eniola Ajao’s movie premiere. When he appeared in court, he said he pleaded guilty, expecting to be fined, but was instead handed a jail sentence.
Bobrisky further shared that after the ruling, his godfather called, assuring him he wouldn’t go to prison. His godfather then contacted the Controller General of Corrections, which led to Bobrisky being placed in a private apartment where he lived comfortably for the duration of the jail term.
The bombshell revelation came when Bobrisky disclosed that rapper, Falz reached out to him. With the help of Falz’s father, renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, they devised a plan to secure a pardon and clean up the entire situation.
Bobrisky debunks leaked call recording
Reacting to the call recording, Bobrisky tagged the leaked call recording as fake. He also denied bribing any EFCC officer to drop money laundering charges against him. He also claimed that he served his jail term.
“My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet that I paid EFCC 15 million naira, and that I was never in prison… I didn’t pay any EFCC money, is a very big lie. I served my term in full, and I came out. Discard any false information.”
EFCC orders investigation into Bobrisky’s bribery allegation
Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) ordered an investigation into alleged bribery allegations levelled against some officers of the Commission Bobrisky.
Glamsquad recalls that in April, the Commission filed six charges against Bobrisky, focusing on Naira abuse and money laundering. Four of the charges were related to Naira abuse, while the other two involved money laundering.
However, during his court arraignment, the money laundering charges were dropped, and he faced trial on four counts of Naira abuse. On April 12, after being found guilty, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in jail.
Seun Kuti slams EFCC, others
Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti weighed into the drama and disclosed that he gave Verdarkman the greenlight to go public with the recorded call conversations.
During a live Instagram session, Seun noted that what truly angered him was the stark difference in how justice was handled. He voiced his disbelief at how the EFCC allegedly gave Bobrisky VIP treatment, while he, despite his prominent name, was sent to Panti prison during his conflict with the Nigerian police.
Seun Kuti further criticized the EFCC, noting that the agency wasn’t created to go after the real criminals in Nigeria. According to him, the EFCC was set up by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the American government to target small-time offenders like internet fraudsters, while letting corrupt politicians and rich businesspeople get away with their crimes.
He also pointed out that the EFCC is focusing on the wrong problems. Instead of tackling the serious corruption in politics and business, they go after young internet scammers, who, in his opinion, are not Nigeria’s biggest problem.
Bobrisky goes spiritual
As the drama unfolded, Bobrisky took to his Instagram page to quote some verses and invoke God’s protection upon him in the face of adversity.
He wrote:
“2 Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. Psalm 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous.”
