Biography of Suzanna Owiyo, Tracy Chapman of Africa

Suzanna Owiyo is one of the top most singers in Kenya. She is widely recognized accross the length and breadth of Africa. She is regarded as the “Tracy Chapman of Africa” as a result of her unrelented contributions to African music.

Suzanna is a music composer as well as guitarist. She was born in 10th of May 1975 in kasaye village, city of kisumu, Kenya.

Early Life

Suzanna started music at early age. She started by participating in national music festivals to showcased her talent.

In secondary school, she won many trophies and awards that brought her into limelight.

She studied at Kenya Conservatoire of Music to widen her music scope of knowledge.

Career

Suzanna musical career witnessed rapid growth after partnering with Kenyan music legend, Tedd Josiah’s album. The album was widely accepted accross Africa.

The success of the album made her to bagged her first award nomination, Kora Award, Most Promising Female Artist category.

Since she bagged her first award, she has participated in many concerts in and outside Kenya.

Her style of music captures traditional western music and contemporary rhythms.

She was part of the celebrities that performed at the 90th birthday of Nelson Mandela.
