Iyiola Omisore was elected National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress thirteen months after officially joining the party.
Along with 76 others, he was elected (by consensus) in the party’s national conference in 2022.

Senator Iyiola Omisore attended Ile – Ife’s St. John’s Grammar School from 1972 to 1976. From 1976 to 1980, he studied at the Ondo State Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo State, before proceeding to Full Technology College in Reading, England, where he earned a Diploma Certificate in Electrical/Electronics Engineering in 1983.
Omisore graduated from Brunnel University, Uxbridge, with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in FTC Power and Machines. Brunnel University Uxbridge, United Kingdom, awarded him a Postgraduate Certificate in Building Service and Engineering Management and a Masters of Science Degree in Building Service, respectively.
He also holds a PhD in Infrastructure Finance and Public-Private Partnership from the International School of Management in Paris, France.
In 1999, he became the Deputy Governor of Osun State.
In 2007, Omisore was re-elected to the Senate. Industries, Culture and Tourism, Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs, Navy, Communications, Appropriations, and the UND/PINASS Support Implementation Committee were among the committees he chaired or served.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, the Association of Cost Engineers, the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers, and the Nigerian Society of Engineers
In 2016, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Omisore for allegedly receiving N1.3 billion from then-National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki. The EFCC eventually released him.
Omisore had switched political parties in his ambition to become governor of Osun State. From the Alliance for Democracy to the Peoples Democratic Party to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress, the party has gone through many transformations
In February 2021, Omisore officially defected from the SDP to the APC. Benedict Alabi, the Deputy Governor of Osun, and Famodun, the party’s state chairman, welcomed him into the party.
