Benedict Ayade was born on March 2, 1968, in Kakum, Cross River State, Nigeria. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Akinsheye Ayade were devoted Catholics, and his father worked for the Water Board as a Public Servant.

Ayade attended St. Stephens Elementary School in Obudu for his primary education. He enrolled in the Government Secondary School, Obudu, Nigeria, for his secondary education after receiving his First School Leaving Certificate.
He went further to study at the prestigious University of Ibadan, Ibadan, where he graduated with a B.Sc. in 1988. (Honours).
He also earned a master’s degree in microbiology and a doctorate in environmental microbiology from the University of Ibadan.

Ben Ayade began his career as a lecturer at Delta State University in Abraka, where he later became a professor.
Professor Ben Ayade entered politics for the first time in 2011 when he ran for a seat in the Nigerian Senate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During his time in the Senate, he served as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology. He was also a member of the Education, Petroleum Downstream, and Drugs/Narcotics/Crime Committees.
