The situation surrounding signing Whitemoney, the winner of Big Brother Naija season 6, to Empire Mates Entertainment has been clarified by Bankole Wellington, better known by his stage name Banky W.
On September 20, 2022, Whitemoney garnered media attention when he posted pictures of Banky on Instagram and remarked that it was time for him to put out quality music.
The singer and Shine Ya Eye competition winner was widely believed to have a record deal with the label.
In a recent interview on Hot FM Lagos, Banky W, who has made it clear that he did not sign the reality TV star, refuted the report.
Banky W claims that in 2017, EME transitioned from being a record label to a media and marketing agency.
Banky further clarified that he only assisted Whitemoney in obtaining an ambassadorial agreement with a business that it consults for.
He emphasised that the agreement was solely for an influencer campaign for one of the corporate brands that EME works with.
He said: “We transitioned from a record label to Media & Marketing Agency. I didn’t sign Whitemoney, we helped him with an influencer deal with one of the corporate clients that we service, so he is an ambassador for a company. So, we helped him to a marketing situation. We didn’t sign him”.
Whitemoney, released his debut single titled ‘Selense’, earlier in March.
Following the criticism over the new single, the reality star vowed to become a Grammy-winning artiste before 2023.
“Music is food to my system, for those who don’t believe I don’t blame you, I am trying to make more friends and less enemies, I promise one day I go win the Grammys”, he said.
