According to Variety, Avatar: The Way of Water has earned $1.025 billion worldwide after earning $317.1 million in North America and $712.7 million abroad.
It currently ranks third during the COVID-19 pandemic era and has surpassed Jurassic World Dominion to become the second-highest grossing movie of the year thus far.

Avatar: The Way of Water will need to earn more than $2 billion globally to break even, according to director James Cameron, who also stated that the movie needs to be among the top three or four highest-grossing movies of all time.
The cost of the 2009 film Avatar 2 was approximately $350 million, and marketing expenses have surpassed $100 million.
The original Avatar finished as the most successful film of all time with a total gross of $2.97 billion, taking 17 days to reach $1 billion at the global box office.
