Nigerian music sensation, Ahmed Ololade, better known as Asake, stole the spotlight at the 2025 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, making his presence impossible to ignore despite not winning any award.
The Lonely at the Top crooner powerhouse, previously nominated in 2023 but unsuccessful, faced disappointment once again in the Best African Music Performance category.
His chart-topping hit MMS featuring Wizkid competed against tough contenders, including Chris Brown’s Sensational featuring Davido & Lojay, Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow, Burna Boy’s Higher, and the ultimate winner, Tems, with Love Me JeJe.
Though the awards slipped through his fingers, Asake’s star power was impossible to miss. He turned the red carpet into his runway, flaunting a daring new aesthetic that had social media buzzing.
Ditching his signature dreadlocks, Asake debuted a razor-sharp haircut that marked a bold transformation. Clad in a striking military-inspired ensemble, he completed the look with fresh tattoos—including one on his face—that had already sparked conversation online in the weeks leading up to the event.
Speaking briefly with Billboard on the red carpet, Asake addressed his dramatic makeover, revealing that he simply felt the urge to switch things up and reinvent himself.
Despite missing out on the Grammy, the Asake remained upbeat, expressing gratitude for the recognition and the opportunity to share the stage with Africa’s biggest stars.
