Android Digital Car Keys Support May Have a Limited Launch Soon

It’s probable that Android’s digital vehicle keys functionality could arrive shortly, possibly with the Google Pixel 6 unveiling on October 19.

According to the publication, a Google Play services update “indicates the possibility of integrating your car key to your phone is just around the corner.”

 

The article says, “There are various lines of code in the update that appear to be connected, including lines of code that refer to NFC use for unlocking a car.”

The code also suggests that at first, support for digital automobile keys may be limited.

For its digital vehicle keys functionality, “Google cooperated with car manufacturers to enable the digital key utilizing UWB (ultra-wideband) technology and NFC.”

“While Ultra-wideband has a longer range and requires you to tap your phone on a physical access point,” Gizmodo writes, “NFC has a shorter range and requires you to tap your phone on a physical access point.”

 

Google isn’t the only corporation considering incorporating a digital vehicle key into its services.

According to rumors, Apple is planning to include a similar feature in iOS.
