Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,’ was an American-born singer who rose to prominence as the lead singer of the duo Ike & Tina Turner before starting a phenomenally successful solo career.
Tina began her career in 1957 with Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm, and her first recording was under the name Little Ann. Following her divorce from Ike in the 1970s, she embarked on “one of the greatest comebacks in music history.”
Tina Turner rose from being a maid in 1976 to becoming the world’s biggest popstar in 1984.
Her 1984 multi-platinum album Private Dancer was a worldwide smash, and she swiftly established herself as one of the best-selling musicians of all time.
Tina also appeared in the films Tommy, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and Last Action Hero, and her 1993 biography What’s Love Got to Do with It introduced her to new audiences.
She sold over 100 million recordings, was nominated for 12 Grammy Awards, was inducted into three Grammy Halls of Fame, and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also the first female and the first black musician to be on the cover of Rolling Stone.
